THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
The statement made in Auckland last evening by the Hon. W. F. Massey (Prime Minister)., that the Government has now a (dear majority, and that, unless any special business cropped up requiring immediate attention, there would be no necessity to call Parliament together till June next, will, we arc sure, be received with feelings of satisfaction throughout the Doininioja. We have all along held the opinion, quite apart from tho respective merits of the political parties, that in view of the titanic struggle which is taking place in the Old World, it would not be in the best interests of New Zealand to liave a change of Government. The present Government has displayed its' capability to handle the situation so far as our own Dominion is concerned, and wo arc confident that the great bulk of the people, who place patriotism lief ore party, will be quite satisfied to see '.Mr Massey holding the reins of office. The result of the 'Dunedin Central election has saved the Dominion'from the turmoil of another general election, and we believe that people generally will bo thankful for this.
