BUOYANCY OF TRADE.
INCRHASK DHSI'ITH TTIIO WAR
Despite the fact that for five months of the year 1914 the Empire was engaged in a world-wide war, the trade tics of New Zealand, as just revealed by Mr Malcolm Fraser, the Government Statistician, show a most reassuring buoyancy for the twelve months ended December "Ist last. The figures compiled by Mr Fraser so far confirm the prophecy that New Zealand, being a country depending almost entirely on its primary products, will suffer least, of any country in the world-crisis; indeed, in the long run, may find her prosperity increased. The following figures, for instance, give the total value of the principal exports from January to December in 1914:— Butter, £_\33S',----570; cheese, £2,564,125; kauri gum, £497,414: frozen beef. .C1.02. Some of the minor articles, such as rabbit-skins, woollen piece-goods, 'Ac., show in some cases an increase and in others a. decrease. However, the total figures may be summed up as follows: —Total export of N.Z. produce, January-December. 1914, £25.984,717; total of all exports Mother than produce) £269,208; specie, £7522; Grand toial, all exports, £26,261.447.
