PANIC IN CHICAGO "PIT."

LONDON, Thursday

The Chicago meat market is panicky, and yesterday showed wide and erratic fluctuations, pit operators being uneasy owing to a report that the Government intends to investigate recent heavy doalings in tho belief that there had been undue manipulation. Then prices rose owing to reports that New Zealand was importing wheat. May options ranged from 1 dollar 56} cents to 1 dollar 66 cents per bushel, and July options from 1 dollar 37; i cents to 1 dollar 41 5-8 cents. The markot closed weak. May options being down si£ cents and Julys 4 3-8 cents on the day.
