ARTILLERY STRUGGLE INCREASES IN INTENSITY.
BRITISH CAPTURE GERMAN TRENCHES,
(Received Wednesday, 9.20 a.m.)
PARIS, Tuesday. A communique states: Yesterday the artillery struggle increased in intensity on both sides. . A portion of a German regiment drove back the British post at Guinchy The British, counter-attacking, regained the lost ground and progressed beyond it. They captured some of the enemy's trenches. A whole battalion participated in the assault on the trenches mentioned. Our fire broke two of the German attacks, but the third forced an entrance to the trench We counter-attacked with bayonets, and threw the enemy into confusion Only a few escaped, the remainder being killed or captured. Our heavy calibre artillery bombarded the Noyon railway station, where the enemy were causing two explosions.
