A TERRIFIC EXPLOSION.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.') INVERCARGILL, Wednesday. Mr R. A. Mullen, a farmer of Underwood, stowed fifteen pounds of gelignite in a shed adjacent to his house. II ih= wife went to get wheat from the shed for her fowls. While distributing th;* wheat a terrific explosion occurred, Ih<>. shed being completely shattered, and little of it remaining. Many of llv fowls were killed, and pieces of timb' '■ have been picked up several chains away. Every window in tho cotta; 1 ■•* was broken, and one end of the house was blown in. Mullen, who was in o:n k of the rooms, was thrown to the floor, while other members of the family received a severe shaking. By miraculous means Mrs Mullen, who was within, a few feet of the scene of the explosion, escaped any form of injury, excepting for a few minor bruises caused by her being thrown to the earth.
