Some weeks ago a statement was made in a cablegram from America to tho effect that the University of California had given up the Rugby game, and that the coach had predicted the death of Rugby in the American coleges in five years. It now transpires that it was not the big University of California that was referred to, but the lesser college of South California. By the last American mail Mr Hill (secretary of the New South Wales Rugby Union) received a letter which effectively disproves .the suggestion that the Californian University is relinquishing Rugby for the American game of football. South California University has decided ta,do so after playing the British game for two seasons, but that is, in all likelihood, due to a difficulty in getting matches. The parent university and Stanford are still playing Rugby, and there is little possibility of their ever going back to the other game. • Everyone has a cough or cold sometime or somewhere.
