POSITION OF CANDIDATES.
The first result in connection with the Queen of the Carnival contest was announced on Saturday night, there being a large number of people present. The positions of candidates is as follows: — MISS NELLIE HOGG J MISS M. HANLEY - MISS RENE HUGHAN J , MRS TAI TE TAU * ' ' MISS CAPPER £ ! MISS HARPER 'J MRS MUTRIE • * > DISTRICT NURSE JONES 8 MISS HOWARD 9 As the Pipe Band Bazaar opens this evening, it is anticipated that the interest in the election will increase considerably, and the position of the different candidates will no doubt be materially changed. Miss Hogg, who heads the list on the first count receives £1 worth of free votes. ; Miss Gillespie wishes us to state, that any statement made as to the number of votes cast so far in the contest is pure guess-work. Miss Gillespie points out that no one except herself, as official returning officer in connection with the contest, has means of ascertaining -the number of votes cast. The only indication given will be the relative positions of the candidates.
