DISTRESSING SCENES AT LIVERPOOL.

(Received -Saturday, at 8.30 a.m.). LONDON, Friday. The majority of the Empress of Ireland's officers and crew belonged to Liverpool ■ There were distressing scenes at Liverpool and the Shipping Co.'a office was besieged all day long.

Prayers were offered at the Salvation Army headquarters for the safety of the missing Salvationists. SURVIVORS DIE FROM INJURIES. SCORES OF SALVATIONISTS DROWNED. MOST OP CREW. ESCAPE. (Received Saturday, at 10.45. a.m.). QUEBEC, Friday. The rescued include Mr, Mrs and Miss Byrne, of Brisbane. Captain Kendall escaped. The fate of Lawrence Irving's party is unknown. * Many of the survivors had arms and legs broken. Twelve bodies lie on the wharf at Rimouski. They were fatally hurt by tho collision,, but escaped in lifeboats, and died before lauding. Wreckage is strewn all along the St. Lawrence. The funnels of tho Empress of Ireland arc visible at low tide. The Eureka .saved sixty. Most of the members of the crew escaped. Many passengers leaped into the waters, and cluiig to wreckage, thus escaping. The Storstad is expected to reach Quebec shortly with a number of dead bodies and survivors aboard. Scores of prominent Salvation Army officers, including Mr Recs, the South African Commissioner, are among those lost. Twenty-two are recorded dead as the result of injuries received.
