THE EMPRESS OF IRELAND DISASTER.
The news of the terrible collision nt sea between the steamer Empress of Ireland and the collier Storstad, recorded in our cablegrams to-day, hag .added another to tho already long list of disasters at sea. The present sad calamity rivals in regard to loss of life that of the Titanic disaster, the number of drowned and killed being estimated at nearly one thousand. Tie disaster has been a very serious blow to the Salvation Army as a large number—about 500—of Army. delegates were on board the vessel bound for ths Army Conference in London, and the drowned and missing include some >)£ the most capable officers in the service of tho Army The information we publish would indicate that there were no New Zealand delegates aboard the illfated ship. The whole world will stand aghast to-day at tho appalling catastrophe, and to the Salvation Army in particular will deep sympathy go out for the serious loss they have sustained ot trained officers who were e.'.rrying on the noble work of the Army.
