MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The fortnightly meeting of the management committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Union was held at Carterton on Saturday evening last, Mr A. Booth in the chair. * '•■
A letter was received from the Wellington Rugby Union, asking Wairarapa to send a team to Wellington on 3rd June, and offering liberal terms for a match, and also agreeing to a return this season.—Decided to reply that as Wairarapa was sending a team, to Hawko's Bay on that date, this Union was sorry they wero unable to accept the offer.
The Puketoi Sub-Union wrote, offering'to send a team to play a Wairarapa B rep. team at Masterton on June 3rd. —Tlie secretary was instructed to reply accepting the offer, and arrangements were left in the hands of the Masterton delegates.
The District Traffic Manager wrote re trip of senior rep. team to Napier, notifying the issue of first-class fares at second rates, etc.
, From Otago Rugby Union, notifying that they had decided to tour the North Island this season, and-Wairar-apa would be included in such tour.
The Hawko's Bay Rugby Union wrote, notifying the arrangements made for visit of Wairarapa team on June 3rd, and submitting names of referees.—Decided to nominate Mr Williams as referee, also that Wairarapa send 17 players and a manager. Mr A. E. Booth was appointed to manage the team.
A letter was received from the Dannevirke Sub-Union, asking Wairarapa to re-consider their decision not to play a match with them on the return from Napier, and offering special inducement for a game. —After discussion, it was decided that Wairarapa regretted being able to accede to the request, owing to the lateness in starting the fixtures this season, and also to the fact that to break the journey and play on a Saturday would upset all the present drawings of fixtures.
The ilikurangi Native College wrote, stating that they would bo unable to enter a fourth-grade team, as suggested by the Union, Awing to boys at present in the College being too small and light for that grade, and asking permission to enter a team in tlie schools competition.—Deckled to recommend the other schools to favourably consider tlie application.
A Jong discussion took place on the support and control of school football, and it was eventually decided to invite the teachers interested, from the main schools, to attend the next meeting of the Rugby Union, and discuss the matter thoroughly with them.
Messrs E. McKenzie, Booth and Johnston were; appointed a postponement committee, all Clubs to be notified of any postponement in future not later than 12 o'clock.
Messrs Booth and Reid, the Wairarapa delegates to the annual meeting of the N.Z. Rugby Union, held at Well-
ington last week, reported with reference to the business transacted, and were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. They also reported having arranged with delegates of other Unions dates for representative matches as follows: —On tour, against Manawatu, August 9th; against Taranaki, August 13th; against Wauganui, August 15th; also in Wairarapa, against uanterbury, on August 27th; against Otago, September 17th. The delegates from Nelson and Marlborough recommended that the matches against them be played at end of July or early in August, but the fixing of definite dates was held over till a future meeting. It was also reported that Horowhenua would visit Wairarapa provided the financial arrangements for the tour could be arranged, and Poverty Bay, who have to play Bush at Pahiatua, may extend their trip to Masterton.
The fixing of a definite date for a match with Bush Union was held over till a later date. The chairman also reported that Southland, who would be visiting the North Island this season, and who owe Wairarapa a visit to repay the match of last season, would be unable to play here this year, owing to a rather lengthy tour, and it was decided that the secretary write and ask them to re-consider their present intention not to play in Wairarapa.
The Gladstone delegates notified that they would probably be able to now place a junior team in the field, and it was resolved that in the event of their doing so that they take up the bye each Saturday as drawn in the junior fixtures .
Nominations of teams for a fourthgrade competition were held over till next meeting to enable clubs to see what material is offering after the selection of the other teams.
