TRUST LANDS TRUST.

ANNtTAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Trust Lands Trust was held in the Town Hall last evening. Mr W. H. Jackson occupied the chair, and in addition to Messrs C. B. Dauiell, A. W. Hogg, T. Wagg, R. Krahagcn, T. B. Miehcll, and 0. Pragnell (Trustees), there were sixteen other persons present.

In speaking to the report, the chairman briefly detailed the- various items of receipts and expenditure in the balance sheet. Tho Trustees had established a fund for any higher educational institute established in Masterfoil it having been decided to put aside £100 a year for the purpose Ho considered this a wis<s isovo, and showed the sincerity of the Trustees U 1 10 ' garcl to assisting tUlueJitititl in Masterton. Tho Trustees were drawing up a form of lease which it was hoped would suit would-be lessees of vacant Trust sections. The chairman referred to tho improvements it was proposed to carry out at the Town Hall. Tho hall still belonged to the pepole, and could be obtained on the terms which Avore in existence before the trustees let tho hall to the Picture Company. He maintained that the Trustees had done tho right thing in letting the hall as they had -done, as additional revenue was thus secured, and the rights of the people of Mastcrton in regard to the hall were still safeguarded. Mr Dauiell seconded tho motion, and said that the chairman had covered tho various items in the report and balance sheet in an extensive manner. The chairman said that the value of the Trust property was £44,530, and the capital valuo of buildings thereon £19,550. Mr W. Kemp urged, that the trustees should do something for the "pit-ites" at the Town Hall by providing cushions on the seats of the pit. The Hpit-ites" never saw the ceiling, and were not interested in the improvement of tho ceiling. ''You might put a piece of brown paper over that patch up there," ."aid. the speaker, pointing to :i torn piece of paper on the ceiling. He suggested that a silencer and accumulator colls should be provided in connection with the engine providing the light. He condemned the dilapidated condition of some of the Trust buildings. The chairman said that the improvements referred to by the last speaker would, he was sure, receive the attention of tho Trustees. Improvements in regard to the pit and other portions of the hall had been carried on. Tho old buildings referred to belonged to a past generation, and were on tho Trust's hands, an<l could not be got rid of. The motion was carried unanimously. This was all the business, and the meeting closed.
