EMPIRE DAY.

"ALL TOMMY-ROT." LABOUR MAYOR'S OPINION. Press Association—Electric Telegraph—Copyright (Received Wednesday, at 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Wednesday. When the Labour Council at Port Melbourne was discussing a proposal to co-operate in the Empire Day celebrations, the Mayor, Mr Page, declared that it was time all "tommy-rot" about Empire Day was wiped out. He intended to entertain the children on the anniversary of the French Revolution, when the workers revolted against tyranny, and explain to tho children what that day meant. Tho Council carried a resolution that the citizens would most like to celebrate the erection of a new school in a certain street to replace the present "pig-stye."
