During the Budget debate, Mr Lloyd George, Chancellor of the Exchequer, replying to criticism, announced a reduction of twopence in the £ on unearned incomes under £500. Ho twitted the Opposition with blaming him for carrying out Disraeli's maxim, uttered in 1872, that the first duty of a' Minister was to look after the people's health. The Chancellor added that the rich and tho opulent ought to be glad to pay the income and super-taxes if only as a cheap price to buy off a social revolution.
