Miss Mvrtlc Devonport left on Monday on a'visit to Auckland and Whan"'jlr'fl, 11. Perry, of Masterton. who has been on a- visit to Christchurch, returned home yesterday. Mrs W. Reeves, of Cricket street, has been removed to a private hospital, suffering from appendicitis. Mr IX Hebenton, who has been spending a holiday at Auckland and Rotoraa, returned to Masterton last evening. Mr and Mrs A. Webber, of Cole ptreet. and their son, leave Masterton at the beginning of April on a trip to England and Norway, via America Mr W. HoAvard Booth has been asked to stand for the Carterton Mayoralty, but has declined the request owing to business reasons. At Palmerston North on Wednesday afternoon, Mr A. J. Fisher, of Carterton, Avas married to Aiiss Ruth Car-f-on, of Carterton. Mesdnmos R-. 0. David and D. McCracken. of Christchurch ,are spending si holiday at Carterton, and are the guests of Mrs A. L. Whyte. Air James CaHunan, of Belvedere, cut his foot Avith an axe Avhile Avorking at IRathbone's mill at Gladstone on Wednesday. He was brought into Cartertoil, Avhere Dr Johnston put several, stitches in the wound. Mr .). S. Rankin, rabbit inspector, or "Masterton, Avho has been transferred to Palmerston North, left for the latter place to-day, accompanied by M's Rankin. Mr Rankin's successor at Masterton has not- yet been announced. Mr W. T. Murray, who has been schoolmaster at Pongaroa for the past •Jive years, has been appointed, beadmaster of a school near Levin. The change /locs not. take place for some mouths' time.
The death occurred at the Mastert-m Hospital yesterday afternoon, of M ; ss Carrie Gregory, eidest .laughter of .Mr .Tames Gregory, of New South Wales. The deceased had resided for about four years in the "Masterton district. The funeral will take place at 9.15 o'clock to-morroAV morning. A Press Association message that the death has occurred in Wellington of Mrs Naomi Warburton, mother of Mr J. K. Warburton, formerly Au-ditor-General. The deceased at as aged S9. She arrived iv Wellington in IS4O. in the ship Martha Ridgway. Mrs .1. M. .lohnston, a Avell-known Palmerston identity, and Avife of Mr .1. M. .lohnston, secretary of the Manawatu Racing Club, died suddenly at her residence late ou Wednesday evening. She Avas a daughter of Mr Chippe'rton, formerly manager of the Union Bank at Palmerston. and sister to Mrs F. Haggit, of Feilding. The funeral of the late Mrs W. 11. ,'laeksoii took place yesterday afternoon. The cortege Avas a very large and representative one, including members of various local bodies in Masterton, and numerous school children, ail of Avhom came to pay a- last tribute of respect to one held so high in esteem. A large number of Avreaths wore received" from sympathising friends all over the Wellington province. The Rev. H. Watson conducted the service at the church and at the graveside.
