WHARF LABOURERS AGAIN.
CHAOS IN SYDNEY.
Press Association—Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received Monday ? at 9.40 a.m.) < SYDNEY, Monday. Tho wharf labourers only worked ordinary hours ou Saturday, and chaos resulted.
The Willochra left a quantity of untendered cargo on tho wharf, and other steamers were delayed or sailed without portions of their cargo. It is understood that direct action is the result of tho failure of the Melbourne conference to effect a settlement. The men aro demanding two shillings an hour ordinary and three shillings an hour overtime, instead of Is 6d and 25.3d respectively.
- Mr W. M. Hughes does not believe the men's action in declining to work overtime represents a deliberate intention on the part of the Sydney branch of the Federation. Probably a small section of extremists precipitated the trouble.
