FLATTERING RECEPTION AT
GREYMOUTH.
POLICY SPEECH PROMISED
(By Telegraph. — Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Wednesday. A great number of followers of tho Liboritl party mot Sir Joseph Ward at a complimentary banquet at tho Victoria tea rooms. Over three huudred wore prosout. His Worship tho Mayor (Mr G. E. Perkins) presided. Sir Joseph received a most flattering recoption. In tho course of an address, he gave an outline of the doings of tho Liberal party. He pointed out the difforont progressive niensures placed on tho Statute Book by that party, and state,' they were not as prone to nonfulfilment of promises as wero the presout Ministry. lie drew a comparison between Liberalism and progrcssivonoas with Reformism and so-called progressivoness. lie said that prior to tho last election the present Government had made several promises which thoy had never carried out. Sir Joseph made fooling reference to tho late member for tho distriot. Sir Arthur Guinness. He said he hoped that Mr Webb, Sir Arthur's successor, would <lo as much for the district and tho Dominion as a whole as tho late member had. Ho announced that at an early date he would deliver a policy speech in ono of tho cities, and those would indicate tho Liberal programme. In conclusion, Sir Joseph said he sincerely trustod that tho upholders of Liberalism would keep together and not bocomo divided in their ideas, and stated that if this was done the Liberal banner would come into prominence very soou.
