"EASIEST WAY OUT."
Cr. Patchett moved: "Although this council iB of opinion that better supervision in required, yet it considers that tho easiest way out of the difficulty is for the Alfredton Riding, on account of its isolated position, and non-com-munity of interests, to secede from the Masterton county. It also recommends the said riding to open up negotiations with one of the adjoining counties, whero it has the greatest community of interest with the object ot amalgamating with such county, and considers that the council thus reducod in area could be worked to greater advantage with regard to adequate and economical supervision."
Cr. Toogood: "I will second the motion providing it is rnado moro simple, and in the direction of taking a poll of the Alfredton ratepayers on the question of seceding. " Cr. Patcbett said that he desired tho resolution to stand as he had read it.
Cr. Toogood: "I would suggest that you cut out of the first portion of the resolution, as we are not agreed that better supervision is necessary."
Cr. Patchett: "I want the Council to commit itself."
Cr. Miller said that as there was a probability of an alteration of the law and boundaries, it might be well to hold the matter over in the meantime.
Cr Toogood stated that is was the wording of the resolution that he objected to. Cr. Foreman neconded, and tho motion was carried by four votes to three.
