MUCH EXAGGERATED.
FAMINE REPORTS FROM JAPAN.
Press Association—Electri'- TcTeeraph—Copyright SYDNEY, Tuesday.
The Japanese authorities here consider that the cabled statement that nine million people are suffering from the effects of. the famine in Japan ia much exaggerated, as the districts affected do not contain that number of population.
They even consider that if 900,000 was the figure intended, that estimate is also too high.
The famine is probably due to the failure of the crops.
