AT AN END

HUNTLY STRIKE SETTLED. {By Telegraph—Press Association.] AUCKLAND, Tuesday. A Huntly correspondent telegraphs -that a mass meeting of strikers was held this morning, Mr W. Wood presiding over a very large attendance. During the early stages of the meeting those who had joined the new union were asked to leave the hall, whereupon a number of men did so. The question of resuming work was then discussed. Many held the opinion that the strike was broken, and that the best thing to do was to get back to work. A more militant section, however, considered they should fight on. Wiser counsels prevailed, and a large majority voted m favour of declaring the strike off and let each man take his chance of gaining employment. § meeting ended at noon, and at mutes past 12 fully 300 men were up in a long queue outside the company's office, waiting their turn to apply to the manager for work. All -those who are reinstated, however, must join the new union before being allowed to make a start, and as each man must make personal application and be balloted for, the process will take some time.

Nearly 100 men applied for enrolment xn the new union last night, and ttumajority of these were elected. Twentytwo men started this morning, and by the end of the week, after thirteen •weeks' idleness, both mines should bo jgoing in full swing again.
