THE AUSTRALIAN TOUR.

MARLBOROUGH EASILY DE FEATED.

(By Telegraph. —Press Association.)

BLENHEIM, Wednesday

The Australian and Marlborough Rugby representatives played to-day, in good weather, a large attendance lining out. The locals looked the lighter team alongside the visitors. Playing with the wind in their favour, Marlborough failed to take advantage, and repeatedly lost chances* by off-side play. Australia were also offenders in this respect. The visitors gave exhibitions of pretty combination play, in which Sutton, Tasker and Wood were most prominent. Marlborough scored, by Satherley starting a dribbling rush, Nolan getting across. Jackson made a fine attempt, but failed to convert. At. half time Australia led by 17 points to 3. Jones and Sutton scored two tries and Carr one* Hughes converting one. In the second spell Marlborough played a splendid up-hill fight against odds, the visitors' weight and undoubted superiority telling its tale, and they carried the score to thirty points before the bell sounded. Sutton, Carr and Tasker score-d tries, Dwyer converting two. The final scores were: Australia 30, Marlborough 3.
