London quotations, September 20th: Mutton.—The market is firm, but demand only moderate on account of high prices- Canterbury, 4 5-8 d per lb; North Island, for best quality. Lamb.—The market is weaker, though not actually lower. There is no change in prices. Beef. —Tho market is firm. Now Zealand hinds, 4-.ld per lb; fores, 3 l-8d; chilled hinds 4 i)-8d; fores, 3 l-Bd. Butter. —The market is firm, and prices continue to advance. There is an excellent demand for choicest, and a better demand for low grades. This will help to reduce stocks at present in store. Prices for all descriptions have advanced 2s to 4s per cwt during this week. Cheese. —Tho market is firm, but quiet, with no change in prices. Stocks of New Zealand butter and cheese are cleared.

Hemp.—The market is dull, and prices are irregular. Fair current Manila, per ton, £30; forward shipment £29 10s. New Zealand, good fair, per ton, £29 10s; fair, £25 to £25 5s for any position. The output from Manila for the week was 19,000 bales. Sisal: New York market is firmer and equal to £30 per ton c.i.f., Europe. No business is reported.

Cocksfoot Seed. —The market is quiet. New Zealand seed, weighing 16 lb to 171b per bushel, offered at 50s per cwt c.i.f., but it is difficult to find buyers. Danish seed is obtainable at 47s 6(1 c.i.f.

Wool.—The current Bradford quotations for tops are: —36 'c, low crossbreds, 15£ d; 40's, low crossbreds, 15Jd; 44 's, medium crossbreds, 16^d; 50 's, halfbreds, 19Jd; 56's, quarter-breds, 22|d; 60's, merinos, 27fd. Merinos are very firm; crossbreds are quiet. Buyers are waiting opening sales during next week before operating.
