NOTES.
(By "Punter.") The Wanganui meeting commenceE to-morrow, and will bo- continued or Saturday. There were no scratchings on the seond day of the Otaki meeting. Before the Otaki meeting Huia was reported as not being forward, but he succeeded in winning a race each day. The acceptances for Wanganui arc on the small side. The .Maiden Haci contains fifteen acceptors, and the Spring Handicap twelve. Only about thrc horses are likely tc start in the Wanganui Guineas, a £40C race. Eoosevelt is likely to be a populai fancy for the Spring Handicap, is which Bronze has top weight. Acceptances for the Hawke's Bay spring meeting, to be held on Octobei Ist, are due at 8 o'clock to-night. The Masterton meeting will be hel<] on October 16th, and nominations close on Friday night, at 9.30. The first day of the A.J.C. spring meeting is Saturday of next week, when the Derby will be run.' The Mctropolr tan is set down for the following Monday. Last week's "Keferee" has the following:—"Soltano is already pleasing early-morning visitors to Bandwick, but it may be as well to remember that he is one of the lightly-shod division. He is a nice colt, however and if, as is the opinion of many of the New Zealander's critics, he isuudoubtedly their best, he is deserving of al] respect. . . . Last year, with 7.10, Duke Foo'te started at even money for the Metropolitan, and duly won. This time he has 9.7, and it is fairly certain he will again be a hot favourite, even though he may not touch, suel a short price as on the previous occasion. The style in which he won with 9.11 on Saturday demonstrated his ability as a weight-carrier, and he will lose nothing by having W. H. McLachlan to pilot him in the Metropolitan. It looks as if he will beat all those neai him in the weights, but as Emperadoi has been in demand with double backers since his second in the Spring Handicap, hi s form must have been accounted satisractory by those associated with him. As Emperador also met with stable support .for the Metropolitan last week, it may be fairly safe to assume he will not be & runner for the Epsom. "
