ENTERTAINMENTS.

THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.

A SPLENDID FEATURE PRO

GRAMME,

Saturday night saw a hugo crowd at the T.P. Electric Theatre, where the change of programme was composed of ono of the finest selections of subjects ever shown in Masterton. The Kalem film "Redeemed" reveals a fine moral, and is based on Harrison Grey's (the eminent criminologist) claim that not by imprisonment but by love can tho criminal be redeemed; 1 Another special feature is the Nordisk drama entitled "For Love is Life." This is a rather pathetic story, and shows the love of two brothers for a wayward actress, who caused considerablj trouble with her love-making and perfidy. The third big picture on the programme is the Aquela Company's production of "The Court Dancer." The story is briefly as follows. Carmen, the dancer, attracts the attention of Cardinal Richelieu. Tho dancer, however, has given her heart to the dashing D'Artagnan. Angered, the Cardinal has her carried off and imprisoned. Attired as minstrels, D'Artagnan and the musketeers obtain admittance to her prison. They are entrapped by the captain of the ' Guard, but Carmen rescues them. By means of the captain's credentials, signed by Cardinal the musketeers make good their escape. "The School Girl" iB a fine suppoiting drama, and is an excellent sketch of modern happenings. The Selig Company will be represented in a fascinating comedy drama entitled, "Tho Woodman's Daughter," which contains the elements of a pretty romance woven between a city man and a demure backwoods girl. The scenic and educational division included "The San Flavious Mission" and "Falls of Krimmell." An excellent lot of comedies were shown in "Polidor as Hero," "The Last Guest," and "Pat, the Cowboy. " This Beries will be repeated this evening.

THE NORWOODS

This afternoon, at 4 o'clock, commencing from the Post Office, Professor Norwood will execute his famous "blindfold hypnotic drive" through the town. To-night at the Town Hall the company will commence a three night's season. The "New Zealand Times" of September 9th, says:—"lt may be said at once ';hat Mr Norwood's show, putting aside fcr the time the curious psychology which is demonstrated, is one of the most laughable, the most unreservedly funny tnat one could well demand. Right throughout, almost without a brei k, tho audience is kept in a state of the wildest mirth, and ir, as has been asserted, laughing is a good medicine, then this particular entertainmei t may be regarded as a useful and highly commendable public institution. . . . Ihe audience had something to harass its puzzled brain with when Miss Winifred Norwood was hypnotised for the purposes of some demonstrations in mental telepathy. While so influenced, the young lady, in response to the wish of people in the auditorium and without any word having been spoken either by or to her, proceeded to remove rings from one person and place them on the hands of others, to take certain specified coins from a purße and teihporily transfer their ownership, and do a host of other things that delighted and surprised. She was blindfold throughout. There is plenty of variety in Mr Norwaad's shop, and plenty of clean, honest fun." Seats may be reserved at the Dresden Piano Agency.
