PERSONAL MATTERS.
Messrs James and John Dick, of Ngaturi, are at present holiday making in Hawke's Bay. A London cablegram states that Lady Ward and Miss Eileen Ward have sailed by the Medina. Mr J. R. Murray, of Masterton, has been taken to the Masterton Hospital, suffering from scarlet fever. Mr B. R. Rayner has been elected a vice-president, and Mr E. McEwen a director of the Wairarapa Caledonian Society. Mr H. Price, of the Masterton post office staff, and Mrs Price, who have been on a visit to England, returned home last week. Mr E. H. Hiley, the new General Manager of Railways, is due to arrive at Auckland to-morrow by the Niagara from Vancouver. Madame Melba has sailed for America, where Jan.Kubelik, the violinist, joins her to give one hundred concerts, says a London cable message. The death occurred at Wellington on Saturday mornig of Mr William Brunskill, secretary of the Wellington Bowling Club. Deceased was sixty-two years of age. Mr J. Russell, of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand at Greytown, has been promoted to Shannon, and will be succeeded by Mr H. Murphy, of Pahiatua . Mr J. M. Davie has been elected patron or the Eketahuna. Bowling Club, Mr F. W. Smith secretary and treasurer, and Messrs Winteringham Chambers, Cameron, Cowlam, Leslie, Reardon, and Manning a general committee. Mr Cyril Ward (eldest son of Sir Joseph Ward), who has been in the office of Messrs J. G. Ward and Co., Invercargill, ior a number of years, will leave for Christchurch next month to make his home there. The Southland Times states that Mr Ward will join the firm of Kinsey and Co., shipping agents. General regret will be felt throughout the Dominion (says the New Zealand Times) at the sad news contained in a cablegram received at the Salvation Army headquarters (Wellington) yesterday, announcing the death of Brigadier Holdaway in Tasmania. The departed officer was well known and deservedly respected in New Zealand, where he laboured for many years among the Maoris, and latterly in the young people's division of Army work.
