Three; syndicates, headed by Alessrs A. G. Vanderbilt, George Pynchon, and A. Cochrane, have been formed with the object of building defenders for tho America Cup.

The New York Club firmly refuses to sign with Sir Thomas Lipton an agreement binding the Cup defender not to exceed a elefinite size. It is understood, however, that members of the syndicates have agreed that the size shall be approximately what Sir Thos. Lipton's challenge specifies.
