RETAINED BY WAIRARAPA. FAST AND EXCITING GAME. Wairarapa again demonstrated their .right to hold tho Nordon Cup by defeating Manawatu on the I'ark Oval yesterday afternoon. The boys from Palmerston, ever since their jdefoat by Wairarapa last year, had been waiting for a chance to regain the Cup, but it. was not to be, for although they made a big bid, Wairarapa gained a victory by a margin of one goal. The game was fast and exciting from start to finish, and there was a doubt as to the result right up to the final whistle. THE TEAMS. Manawatu (green and white). —Goal: Cousins; full backs: .Kerslake ami Kibblcwhito; halves, Hancock, Cooksley, and Brennand; forwards: Webb, Pitt, Crump, Amos and Hammer. Wairarapa (white). — Goal: Morgan; full-backs: Dixon, G. Tunmcliffe; halves: Hanley, Miller aud Ellis; for- ' wards: Koul, E. Tunnicliffe, Fisher, Russell and Ordish. THE PLAY. Wairarapa opened the attack, but were driven back, and the greens sent the ball over the line. The whites returned, but Kerslake sent them back with a mighty hit. Eisher, Keid and Ellis set up an attack, and a penalty corner gave the local men a chance, but the visitors cleared their eriele. Wairarapa relumed to the attack again ami again. Tunnicliffe had a shot at goal, but missed, and Manawatu came down the line with a rush. Dixon cleared. Again Manawatu gol in the circle, and this lime Ellis kept them off. The greens continued to press, but were sent scurrying back by E. Tunniclifl'c, who 'took play to the visitors' circle, and from a. scramble notched the first goal. From the bully the greens rushed the ball into the Wairarapa circle, and Eitt equalised the scores. Wairarapa attacked solidly, but the defence of Cousins and Kerslake was sound. Fisher missed a fair chance at goal, and then the greens attacked. Crump sent the ball into the net, but he was outside the circle. C.' Tunnicliffe, Fisher and Ordish removed play to the visitors' circle, but Kibblewhite got the ball safely away, and put the whites on the defensive. Morgan stopped shots put in by Amos and Crump, aud Dixon cleared. At half time honours "were even. i

Wairarapa attacked with determination on resuming, Tunnicliffe, Roid. Ordish and Fisher being prominent. Russell shot for the net. hut the ball struck the post. Brennand and Webb came away with the ball, but Dixon, with a big hit, put the ball in the net almost from the other end of the field. Amos, taking the ball smartly on his stick, caused Wairarapa to have a lively few minutes. Morgan and G. Tunnicliffe removed the ball to safety, and the whites broke away. Ordish centred nicely, and Reid shot the goal that was to decide the match. Wairarapa kept up the pressure, and kept the visitors battling gamely. Ordish on the right wing fed the forwards well, and several shots wen' made, but without success. The greens rallied, and removed play to their opponents' territory. Ordish came down the right wing and centred, and Fisher took play into the circle. Yooksley saved. Ordish, Tunnicliffe and Roid made a wild dash for the net. and when the ball had been sent to safely by Cousins three fallen men remained in the circle. They picked themselves up. and up and down the game surged once more. Webb took the ball down the line, and passed ITanley. but Morgan pulled him up. Tlnnlev sent the ball to Ordish, who centred, and Fisher and Reid endeavoured to press homo the attach', but without success. The greens broke away, but Hanlev centred. From a corner hit. I'Y TiMinic'ifl'e sent the ball over the goal. The visitors were attacking when the linal ".vhistle sounded, and Wairarapa had retained their grip on the cup by 2 goaY to 1 .
