They are in favour of urging the Government to acquire as speedily as possible an area of land in proximity to the town where workers might be accommodated in suitable homes. They recognise that the water supply of the town requires immediate attention, and that the drainage system must be extended in the near future. They would, if returned, endeavour to formulate a scheme with the assistance of the engineer and Council which would ensure an efficient service to the town, with a minimum of expenditure. They favour assisting the Beautifying Society, as far as funds permit, in its efforts to make the town attractive. In the opinion of the candidates mentioned the timo has arrived when an effort should be made to amalgamate Lansdowne with the Borough. The Library and public reading room are in urgent need of improvement, and they would endeavour to make them up-to-date and attractive. As far as municipal buildings aro concerned, they would suport any scheme for improvement, but would consult the ratepayers before any considerable expenditure in this connection was made. The lighting of tho streets might also be improved without encroaching unduly upon the* revenue. They consider that many streets in the outlying portion of the town require attention, "and the candidates promise to use every effort to maintain them in a decent state of repair,.. . They, are strongly against with the town in the direction of altering the weekly halfholjflay to any day other than that universally adopted in the district.
