TARANAKI EACES.

NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. The Turanaki Jockey Club's Autumn meeting commenced to-day in beautiful weather, though rain suddenly blew up for the last two races. The course was in splendid order, and the attendance was »ood. The totalisator handled £12,840, as ayainst £10,506 10s for the corresponding day last year. The results wore as follow: — First Hack Handicap Hurdle Kaee, 14 miles.—l Ngatiranui, 10.13 (including 121b penalty), (H. Copestake), 1; 3 Bercola, 10.9 (F. Flynu), 2; 4 Timothy, 10.1 (F. Meagher) 3. Also run—2 Aviatrix 10.13, 5 Otehua 9.0. Bercola made most of the running, but Ngatiranui came fast from the last fence and won by a length and a half, with two lengths between second and third, Timo, 2min 47 sec. Stewards' Handicap.—l Lucerne, 7.4 (O. McCnrten), 1; 5 Piriwal, S.O (B. 01----livcr), 2; 8 Simple Sam, (5.9 (Trigger), ;>. Also ran —3 Sanguinary 8.8, 2 Overtime 7.8, 6 Crawford 6.13, 4 lueuru 6.11, 7 Hector Girl 6.9. Ineuru was the iirst away, but Lucerne ran through at the end of a furlong and won comfortably from Piriwal by three lengths. Time, lmin 2 3-ssec. Timaru Hack Handicaji, (5 furlongs.— 2 Zetes. 7.3 (C. Emmerson), .1; 4 Grattan, S.lO (J. Nodder), 2; 3 Worcester, 8.5 (J. O'Shea), 3. Also ran—l Passadena 8.11, 5 St. Luap 7.0, 6 Chaminade 7.0. Grattan made the running; to the distance, when Zetes threw out a strong challenge, and got up in time to win by a neck. Timo, lmin 44 4-;">sec. Yankee Doodle led all the way, and won easily by a length, with throe lengths between second ami third. Time, lmin 4sec.
