CATHOLIC FEDERATION.
NEW ZEALAND CONSTITUTION
Representatives of the various Wellington parishes met on Sunday afternoon in Boulcott street to receive the draft constitution and rules of the proposed Catholic Federation of New Zealand. The Very Rev. Dean O'Shea, who preside , ' said that in Dunedin and Auckland the movement was being taken up enthusiastically by the clergy and laity. In Auckland the parish councils had already been formed. At Christchurch a meeting was being held that day to establish the federation, and in Dunedin a meeting had already been held for that purpose. The object' of the meeting was to adopt a constitution, and the next step would be to elect parish committees, after which the Diocesan Council would be appointed. The matter would be fully considered at the "retreat" of the Catholic clergy, which is being held this week, and the parish priests would be exr.-rted to take up the movement as soon as they went back to their respective parishes. It had been practically agreed by the bishops of the four dioceses that as soon as the Diocesan Councils were established a central Council would be elected to net as a controlling authority for the whole of the Dominion. The meeting approved of the draft constitution and rules, with some amendments, and the following provisional Dominion Council was elcted: A 7 ery Rev. Dean O'Shea (ex officio), Alcssrs J. W. Callaahan, P. D. Hoskins, M. O'Kane, R. P. Flanagan, A. 11. Casey, B. Ellis, Girling-Butcher, T. AleCosker, and J. J. L. Burke. Representatives from Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin have yet to be appointed.
