DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our Own Correspondents.)

ALFEEDTON,

Last Thursday was :i red letter day for the children attending the Ali'redtou School, the occasion being their annual picnic, which was held on the Domain ground. The weather was nut. too kind in the morning, but fortunately the afternoon turned out gloriously sunny. Quite a large number of adult's attended, and many helped to amuse the children, and so made the outing all the more enjoyable. Mr S. M. (Jeoru? (chairman) and Mr Manson (luridteacher) worked like Trojans for the comfort of all. During the afternoon the presentation of prizes by Mr S. M. George took place. The chairman made a very happy speech, and urged the children to work harder and so gain more prizes. On being asked for three cheers the children rose to the occasion and gave them lustily. In the evening a dance was held in the hall for which the music was supplied by Mr Manson. A wedding of considerable local interest took place at the local church on Wednesday, the parties being Miss Rita Kebbell and Mr E. C. Gaisford.
