DISTRICT NEWS.

(From Our Own C >rrespondnutß.)

TAUERU.

Shearing operations and preparations for same are now occupying the attentions of sheepfarmers in this district, and weather conditions are not proving all that could be desired. Tho past week, following on the recent phenomenal snowstorm, has been fine, but today (Monday) rain has again set in, and all shearing will have to be postponed for the next day or two. Fortunately very little shearing had been done previous to the snowstorm, and no serious losses are reported. Wool waggons are daily becoming more numerous on the roads. Wool promises to be considerably lighter in condition this year, owing to the wetness of the past season.

Tho local School Committee has had to abandon its water scheme for the present, owing to its being unsuccessful in tapping a spring on Mr Whatman's property. The spring was found to be impracticable owing to its being considerably deeper under ground at the point selected for tapping than anticipated.

On Thursday, 14th November, a concert is to be held in the Taueru Hall under the management of the School Committee, in aid of the school funds. Mr Harry Hall, the well-known and popular artist, of Masterton, has kindly consented to come out and bring a party of picked performers with him, and one need not say that the concert is bound to be a popular one.
