NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS

M —.l. —You are confusing the battle of Copenhagen of April 2nd, 1801 (when the English, under Sir Hyde Parker, with Nelson as his second in command, destroyed the Danish fleet), with the bombardment of Copenhagen by the English fleet from September 2nd to September sth, 1807, as a result of the refusal of Denmark to hand over her fleet for safe keeping to England. The former incident arose out of the war which resulted from the coalition of the northern states with Russia against England. The latter occurred as the result of Canning's resolve to violate the neutrality of Denmark iv order to checkmate the Tilsit compact. You should read history more carefully.
