AUSTRALIA v. ENGLAND.

The third test match between the Australian and English teams eomrr.Mneed to-day, in bright, though unsettled, weather. The attendance minioorc-.l :l',oo.

Dean and Douglas replaced Hitch and Hayes in the English team, owing to the latter being indisposed.

Play started at noon. Fry won r the toss, and sent Hobbs and Rhodes in to bat, the pair facing Whitty and Matthews. They made $ splendid stand for the first wicket. Foster joined Woolley. Runs still came slowly. Hazlitt replaced Kelleway at lflS. The second century was hoisted after 265 minutes' play. Minnett replaced Ilazlitt at 211. Minnett got Foster with the last ball of his first over—a slow bailer. — 7 for 216.

Smith, the incomer, kept up his wicket, but did not score. Woolley, with a cut for four and a straight drive for four over Whitty's head, reached 50 in 115 minutes. Woolley made four from an off drive and four by a late cut in the last over, and was then out leg before to Minnett. Woolley played brilliantly, his strong points being offdriving and cutting.
