DESERTER FINED.

Received Tuesday, at 12.00 p.m. LONDON, Monday. A fireman was fined five pounds for deserting the Georgic at Melbourne. The White Star Company stated that uiueteen men had deserted from the ship. There had been many similar oases owing to the opportunity of earning £9 a month on coasting vessels compared with £-1 in England.
