COMMONWEALTH PROPOSALS.
Press Association—Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Tuesday, at. 10.50 a.m. MELBOURNE, Tuesday. The Federal Government lias decided to act along the lines indicated by Hon. A. Fisher (Premier) in connection with securing a closer relation with New Zealand as soon as politics in tho Dominion are more settled. It is believed that at first the reciprocity will be restricted to defence and commercial relations. Mr Fisher stated that action will bo taken on the lines of the motion passed at the Hobart Labour Conference. He considers that a defence agreement should be made between the Commonwealth and the Dominion as practical ly an immediate step towards closer political relations. Senator Pearco has instructed the captain of the Naval College to prepare particulars of a proposal for training New Zealand cadets.
