MEETING OF STEWARDS.

The monthly meeting of stewards was hold on Saturday afternoon, there lieiiia- present:—Messrs C. F. Vallauc.o (chairman;, J. Macara, W. Cooper, C J Bennett, W. Buiek, J. lorns, J. B* Moodio, A. West: wrote complaining in connection with certain alterations done to work at the grandstand buildJXIjLT •j he chairman stated that the building committeo had considered that certain alterations should be made to the building, but Mr West; would not a"l-oo to these, and it was in this connection that tho architect complained The building committee were ot opinion that the alterations were necessary and should be carried out, as the Club were paying for the building. Mr Reside said that the committee had a free hand, and the stewards were satisfied with tho work of the committee. The chairman wished an opinion ol the stewards, and whether they should meet Mr West in the matter. Mr lorns said the stewards were satisfied with the building committee's work. Mr Moodio said that if there wore points outside the alterations to discuss, it would be in the interests of the Club to get Mr West to come to Masterton and meet the stewards. Mr Macara pointed out that a considerable saving had been made by the building committee through tho alterations. There may be other things Mr West might have something to say upon. Mr McLachlan said that as a matter of courtesy they should meet Mr West, and it would be also satisfactory to all parties. He moved that Mr West l»e asked to come to Masterton and liuet the stewards. Mr Cooper endorsed the remarks of Messrs McLachlan and Moodie. The motion was carried. Mr (f. Hutehiuson wrote offering to sell ;iockey's scales for t'.vr 10s.— It •was decided to purchase the scales. H. Welch, late custodian of tl:c Opaki racecourse, wrote asking the stewards to acknowledge his past services by allowing him a mouth's wages.—Mr McLachlan moved that the application be granted. Mr A. Reside seconded. The motion was lost, only the mover and seconder voting for "it. The treasurer reported a credit lialiince of £C.Oa l?s -hi. Accounts amounting to £~>(\ 5s 10d were passed for payment.
