THE LATEST REPORT STATES THAT THE STRIKE HAS BEEN SETTLED.

At a meeting held at the Basin Reservo yesterday afternoon, attended by about ?>{){)() people, a resolution was carried calling upon the Council to sign the new proposal, or, in the alternative, to resign iv a body. It was indicated by the speakers that, failing a settlement to-day, n general strike would take place. The aetingjUayor lias made a statement to the press in which he declares that all matters in dispute between the Union and the Council are at an end, and that, the way is clear for the men now to resume work.
