Gunn was next, and at 27 Matthews relieved McDonald. The extreme neat was already affecting the players, ami the hatsinen frequently walked between the wickets to reserve their energies. At Hi! a double change took place, Brown relieving McKenzie and McDonald taking the place of Matthews. Hobbs played the ball on to his wicket in trying to hook Brown. Hearne joined Guun, only to see. the latter play McDonald on to his wicket, after he had batted (U minutes. Meail tried to pull a short pitched one from Brown, and was given out leg-before. Matthews, who had replaced McDonald, dismissed Woolley witli a "yorker. '" Douglas joined Hearne, who was relishing the heat and batting stylishly. At the tea adjournment the scores stood, Hearne 77, Douglas 10. On resuming alter tea, McDonald and Brown bowled.
