PROPOSED COACH SERVICE.

A proposal which has been made, to run a coach or motor-veiiicle daily between Masterton and Pongaroa, via Wangaehu Valley aud Alfredton, is worthy of full investigation by the Chamber of Commerce. The country which the proposed coacii route would traverse is country capable in places of subdivison, ami, while tho building of the Masterton-Pongaroa railway i.s being awaited, the establishment of a coach service might do something to help the cause of closer settlement. Most of tho land through the Wangaehu Valley is already occupied, and a suitable coach service Avould doubtless bring a certain amount of trade into the town. The Wangaehu Valley-road is a good one, and it does not encounter the steep hills that the Alfredton-Eketahuna-road has to climb. The road between Alfredton and Pongaroa is not so good, but it is being rapidly improved, and when it is readily passable in winter, tho people of that district will certainly use it as an outlet in preference to the Pongaroa-Makuri-Pahia-tua-road. If a coach service via Wangaehu Valley could tap this great, area of country it would be an extremely valuable feeder to tno town of Masterton.
