WOOL SALES.

ADVANCE IN PRICE

ILOAN & MERCANTILE REPORT

(By Telegraph.—Special to Daily 7 lines.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile .V'ouey report as follows:—Tho third wool sale of the Wellington series took place to-day in the Concert Chamber of tho Town Hall. Buyers Vtorided in strong force, aud included representatives from all tbe wool centres Tho New Zealand mills aud speculators wero also represented. The quantity offered was some 4500 bales less than that offered at the corresponding sale last season, when the catalogues totalled about 22,500 bales, a-ainst about 18,000 bales lor this sale. Tho shortage is almost wholly a. counted for by the wet weather experieuced during the later part ot November and December retarding shearing operations. Tlie clip, taken on the whole, is, we think, lighter in condition, but shows evidence ot the unseasonable weather in the large proportion of cotted wool sent forward. Prices for Romneys and super crossbred wero about VI to :i .,d higher than in December. Halfbreds were rather neglected, but sold ou a par with last o.ie Lambs' wool was in good re-a-w<t and realised from 8d to lOd per lii Our top price was 11V 1 - obtained for a bright Romney grown d.v Messrs 1 mil J G. Taylor, Martinborough, the same figure being obtained for a 1-uo of crossbred belonging to Mr .las. Thompson, ot Masterton. ABRAHAM AND WILLIAMS. Messrs Abrahr.ni and Williams, Lnl.. report: Ar the third series of tlie Wellington wool sales total catalogues comprised about 17.000 bales, which were offered to a large attendance of buyers representing Home, American anil Continental houses. The wool

opeued up in very fair condition, but There was a fair propoition of back country wool. There was, however, very little wool carrying seed. The ■-ale o])ened with good competition, but prices for some lots were inclined to be irregular. Competition was particularly keen from American buyers for bright fine wool showing quality, aud these lots showed a good advance upon December rates. Pieces, bellies, etc., were about K,d lower. Lambs were in strong demand. When we submitted our catalogue after the adjournment for lunch we experienced a very strong demand, and prices, especially for the medium wools and pieces, bellies, etc., hardened considerably, and as a result we have great pleasure in reporting a splendid •--ale. Some of our sales were as follows: —
