ART EXHIBITION.
SUGGESTION FOR THE COMPETITIONS SOCIETY.
A local resident, speaking to a 'Times reporter yesterday, mentioned ■a which might well bo coiiKideipft by tho Masterton Literary and Elocutionary Competitions Societ)'. \lt was suggested that as the aim of fytlie Society is to develop the artistic Nude of character, it would possibly give tho local competitions au added interest and importance if an art exhibition were held in the Drill Hall (or other suitable building) simultaneously with the holding of tho other competitions. "I feel certain that there is ample talont iv the district itself to support such an exhibition, aud especially if it were constituted on the lines of the other competitions," was tho opinion expressed. "You have an art instructor to the local Technical
•School who could, and doubtless would give the Society invaluable assist- \ ance in preparing a schedule of eom- \ petitions, while there could also be a • section included for purely exhibition purposes. Possessors of good canvases and artistic productions in general could be invited to lend them for the exhibition, and thus an attractive important addition might be made to the functions of tho Society I think the matter should certainly bo discussed by the Society."
