Mr A. J. Toogood, of Featherston, has been appointed a J. P. Mr Leonard Hambling, of Woodville, •died in tho Palmerston Hospital on Friday last.

Mr'A. F. Tosswill, of the DaniieJTvirke railway staff, has been promoted to the position of stationniaster at Mauriceville.

The friends in Masterton of Miss Lily Hodder, daughter of Mr Walter Hodder, of Featherston, will regret to learn that she is seriously ill.

Mr A. W. Moller, of tho Featherston railway staff, has been appointed stationniaster at To Aro. Mr T. "Walshj/of Hastings, w r ill succeed Mr Moller on the clerical staff.

Lord Denman, the now Governor •General of the Commonwealth, has •arrived in Melbourne. He was offici■ully welcomed by Mr Hughes and was ■afterwards sworn in by tho Federal Chief Justice.

Cr R. G. Welch was appointed, at Saturday's meeting of tho Wairarapa County Council, to take tho place of Cr T. V. Moore us delegate to the Municipal Association's.. Conference to be held in Wellington next month. Mr W. T, Parata, manager of tho N. Z. Maori football team, 'the members of which! are at present staying in Masterton, is a brother of Mrs Tai Te Tan of Lansdowne.

Mr W. Burnett, one of the members of the New T Zealand Maori football team, now in Masterton, is a son of Mr William Burnett, Mayor of Dnne■din.

Tho friends of Miss Eva Dagg, -daughter of Mr H. J. Dagg, of Iltnraua Valley, and formerly of Masterton, will regret to hear that she is seriously ill with tin attack of pneumonia.

The death occurred at Greytown, on Sunday night, of Anikanara Hcremaia, widow of the late Heremaia Tomaihotua, chief of the NagtiHinewak and Ngati-Hikawera tribes. Deceased was the mother of Niniwa Heremaia, a well-known Native, and was aged about eighty-eight years. She belonged to the Hamua, .NgatiKoura and other hapus. The tangi and funeral will bo held at Tablelauds, Martinborough, some time •during the week.
