The House of Lords discussed the question of '' tacking in connection with the Parliament Bill.
Lord Haldane, expounding the Government's view, stated that though. Mr Asquith defined "tacking" as including in a financial Bill extraneous provisions designed for social and political purposes, lie never suggested that a money Bill must be devoted to such purposes. Lord Cromor's clause was finally adopted by 192 votes to 48 votes. The chaise empowers the joint Committee to sit in judgment on finance, bills, in order to withdraw from the supremacy of tho Veto any Bill whose governing purpose brings it within the category of general legislation.
Lords Nelson, St. Aldwyn and Lvtton voted with the Government.
