AUSTRALIAN IMMIGRATION.
There is a, strong tide of Scottish emigration settiug iv towards Australia, and the Commonwealth is offering extraordinary inducements to attract this class of immigrant, an entire family boing convoyed to Westralia for tho extremely low figure ofj£s for steamer fare, This moderate charge covers the passages of tho whole family, and includes a week's stay in the Government Home, at Brisbane, free of charge, together with a, free grant of laud of one hundred and sixty acres, besides an advenco of money from the Government to clear and stock it. Quite recently, between two and throe hundred Scottish omigrauts took their final departure from Glasgow en route for their destination at the Antipodes. The news has been received of further considerable numbers of English and Scottish farmers having made up ttieir minds to seek to improve their positions by emigration to Australia, exceptional facilities having been offered by the various State Governments. These are the kind of settlers that New Zealand wants, but this Dominion does noc appear alive to the Australian methods of inducing desirable immigration.
