A MAN KILLED
INHABITANTS TAKE FLIGHT.

The Taupo correspondent of the New Zealand Herald reports that au alarming landslide) has occurred at the Native settlement of Waihi, a mile westward of Tokaauu, on the shores of Lake Taupo. Yesterday morning the hillside behind the village began to bodily slip away, and it then forced its way to the lake,
carrying whares, houses aud every
thing in its track. The landslide has spread out about three chains into the lake in deep water. Unfortunately the Natives had little waruiug, aud one of them, named Wi
Tamaiwhara, was killed, and others
injured through the falling debris. The hill is still sliding and the
Natives are hurrying away from the Wai hi village, as they expect the whole place to bo demolished. It is only a short distance from where the other memorable landslip occurred iv March, 3 846, wheu the village of Te Rapa was overwhelmed by a laudslide, aud all the inhabitants were killed, except three, who escaped. One of tho latter was the mother of Wi Tamaiwhara, now killed iv this slide. The Natives are in a great state of excitement, and are Hurrying off with their household goods, aud escaping from what they cousider the impending doom of the beautiful village of Wai hi.
