LICENSING PROSECUTIONS,

At the Magistrate's Court cm Monday, before Mr O. C. Graham, S. M., Maggie Johnston was charged with procuriug liquor iv tliG names of J. Winter ing ham aud T. Murray. A plea of gnilty was entered- in respect of procuring liquor for Murray, and a fine of £10, with costs, was imposed.

On the remaining charge, J. Winteringham deposed tiiat Jie did not; give any authority for the procuring of liquor in his name.

Mrs Johnston gave evidence that she had been asked to send for the liquor, and did not know she was breaking the law.

The case was dismissed. AN ALFREDTON CASE

W. Cross laid an information against G. Burton for alleged illegal impounding of his stock. The plaintiff alleged that the stock were taken from a reserve. The defence was that the stock, were impounded from the road near defendant's property.

The dispute arose over tht? plaintiff using a pose belonging to defendant, for which plaintiff said he agreed to pay 2s 6d, while defeudaut placed the amount at 10s. Tho plaintiff deposed that the defendant beat him with a whip. The defendant admitted that he tried to do so, but plaintiff escaped.

A fine of 10s was imposed, with costs £3 7s. His Worship remarked that the assault was not of a serious nature and no further order would be made.

JUDGMENT SUMMONSES

Orders were made on judgment summonses as follows : —A. Maugusou v. G. H. Williams, £11 14s 3d; defendant was ordered to pay forth - with, in default one month's imprisonment; warrant to bo suspended for fourteen days. A. Maugnson v. C. Johauseu, £3 lls yd, order was made for paymeut forthwith, in default fourteen days , inrprisoument; order to b9 suspended ou payment of 20s monthly, first payment to be made by April 21st.
