THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES.
I The permanent picture eutertaiument is becoming very popular iuMastertou. When Messrs Thompson ami Payne first started their enterprise here the Foresters' Hall had to be altered to make it suitable for the class of exhibition intended, and to-day the building lias been so tar improved that it is almost the ideal of a picture palace. The new dynamo lately iraportod lias proved a huge success, and lias added greatly to the brilliance of the picture. Messrs Thompson and Payue deserve great credit for the finished mauner iv which they place their entertainment before the public, the absence of flicker,, and the solid appearance of the picture upon the sheet being greatly appreciated by the audience. Last evening the usual change of programme was made, and the films were well up to the T. P. standard. "Logging in Italy" is a most interesting film. "Condensed MilK Industry" is descriptive of the Swiss product in the making, the various phases of manufacture being exhibited, as well as some pretty views of dairying among the mountains. "Picturesque Zanzibar" is a short film containing a few street scenes in the African town. "Modern Highwaymen" illustrates the "sticking up" of the occupants Qf a motor car by the rider of a motor cycle, and his capture after au exciting chase. "The Blue Bird," "Devil's Three Sins," aud "The Goddess of the Sea" are legendary subjects, the colouring and costumes being beautiful. "How a Sailor is Made" describes the training of boys destined to follow the sea for a living. The humorous pictures, "When Prison Ears are Useless," "Why Jones Couldn't Sleep," "Surprises of a Flirtation," and "Paperhanging by a Novice" are really good.
