LONDON MARKETS.

HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE

The Commerce aurl Tourists' Division has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, March 10th, 11)10:—

The mutton market is strong, and prices are advauoing for all descriptions. The demand is principally speculative, on account of the difficulty of obtaining supplies. Holders are firm. Average pricas—Canterbury 4J£d per lb, North Island Australian 3%d, River Plato 3%d.

The lamb market is very iirrn, with a general and active demand. Average prices—Canterbury 5%d per lb, other New Zealand 5%d, Australian and River Plate 4%d.

The beef market ia firm, aud stocK small. High prices are restricting business in New Zealand beef. New Zealand hindquarters average per lb, forequarters 3%d.

The butter market is steady, with a moderate demand, but the high level of values restricts business, aud buyers are holding back expecting prices to go lower. The shipment of butter per s,s. Coriuthic arrived in good condition, The average price of choicest New Zealand butter is 124s per cwt, Australian and Argentine 121s, Danish 130s, Siberian 1225.

The cheese market is very firm, but buyers are cautious and business dull. New Zealand liues,t white cheese is averaging 623 per cwt, coloured GOs.

The hemp market is quiet, with a small business doing. Prices are as follow :—On spot, New Zealaud good fair £25 per ton, fair £24, Manila fair current £24 10s; April to Juno shipments, good fair £24 10a, fair £23 10s, Manila £28. The week's output of hemp at Mauila was 26,000 balos.

Wool—The market is lirmer for merinos, but not quite so linn for medium aud coarse crossbreds.
