Mr Chas. McLaren's so-called "Women's Charter has been read a first time in the House of Commons. It cousists of niue hills, including the enfranchisement of women aud measures entitling them to divorce on the ground ot men's unfaithfulness; also

grants to wives cf a sum equivalent to the aggregate of wages earned as housekeepers, in the event of the husband's death, divorce, separation or bankruptcy. All educational facilities are to be shared by both sexes equally. Provision is made for supplying midwives aud the establishment of creches modelled on the German systems introduced by Pestalozzi and Froebel. HflPses and milk for infants aro to be provided by municipalities.
