Mr Laing-Measou was engaged by the Borough Couucil to report on possible water supplies. The report (which is very lengthy) was read at the Couucil meeting. Following is a summary :— Maugatainoka River — Excellent water, good supply, but cannot bo considered as a practicable source of supply, as it would be uecessary to establish au intake three miles above Larson's bridge. Rougokokako Creek—The four creeks would furnish a sufficieut supply, but takiug the water would deprive several farms aud the cheese factory.

Maugaorouga Creek—Barely euough water, aud is also liable to great pollution. Bayliss Creek—Does not carry nearly sufficient water, and is also subject to pollution. Makakahi River — Mr LaiugMeason's report is similar to Mr Dobson's, with the exception that the water might be taken to a reservoir on Mr Falkner's laud in earthenware pipes and led from thence in seven inch pipes. Mr Dobson proposed eightinch pipes direct from the river. This scheme Mr Laiug-Measou estimates to cose £10,(575.

Makakahi Pumping Scheme—Mr Laine-Meason recommends a pumping scheme from the Makakahi about one mile south of the towu. Flere the river makes a wide detour, returning to withiu sixty or seventy feet of the same place aud giving a fall of thirteen feet. There is no difficulty in tho application of the principle of hydraulic pumping at this place. Mr Laiug-Meason recommends (1) sinking a shaft near the river bank to obtain pure water, or (2) installing a mechanical filter and usiug the river water. The water to be pumped to a reservoir on the hill over the railway line, which hili has au elevation of 180 feet above the Couucil Chambers, giving a pressure of 771bs per square inch. This scheme is estimated to cost £8550.
